Solar Cell is officially called photovoltaic cell, an electrical device which is able to convert light or photon to electricity. The word “Photovoltaic” was derived from the Greek word φῶς (Phos) means light while the word “Volt” was named after the last name of the Italian physicist, Alexander Volta who invented battery (electrochemical Cell). The word “Volt” is used in English since 1849.

Solar cell is made from semi-conductor such as silicon, gallium arsenide, indium phosphide cadmium tellunide and copper indium diselenide. When directly exposing to sunlight, it works as the carrier and separated to be positive and negative charges in order to produce electric voltage at both electrodes of solar cell. Connecting electrodes to DC current devices will allow electric current to flow into and energize the device to function.
